this is a 3.0l tdi by the way...... So yesterday I had a custom map, egr, dpf delete and also had the cat removed. All fine and dandy.
On the way back I was following a friend who gave me a lift to collect my car. couldn't resist, I over took him and met him back at mine. He told me as I was booting it, there was quite a bit of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Thought nothing of it, I thought dpf and cat only just been removed so expectable and wont happen again.

Today I get in the car, it struggled to start and took a lot longer than usual. When it eventually started the amount of white smoke coming out was embarrassing, I drove off and left quite a trail of it too. After driving off , by the time I left my estate it had all cleared.

ive had diesels with dpfs removed before and on a cold day (night especially ) the do give off a little white smoke. But nothing like this, plus it was nearly 17 degress today which is what panicked me.

I don't really no much about the 3.0 so maybe its to be expected when dpf and cat is removed. Im working early in the morning so will be interesting to see what its going to be like when cold.

Could it be that the remap has highlighted the next weakest link and your injectors are on the way out?

so this morning I fired her up for work and there was no white smoke at all. Surely if an injector was on its way out it would do it everytime?
reckon im safe to say it was just because of a fresh decat and dpf delete

Injectors leaky seal or just overfueled in the map? White smoke is unburned fuel.
I would take it back so the guy can tweak his map to suit the cars condition, no big deal if you get it adjusted in good time.

just to add i had loooooaaads of white smoke on my 2.0tdi after a stage 2, dpf gutted, egr delete etc, was told it same thing i said to you.
Took it to Bobby singh the second time (not the same person who mapped it initially) and he sorted it out and it felt like a new car after, amazing what a good map can do :)

was it doing it before the map?
doesnt mean he is a bad mapper, just might need an adjustment or a failed component since, I don't think anyone is saying its a bad job.

nope nothing before. I am crossing my fingers that it just needs a re tweak but i think from what ive read the decat and dpf delete has clearly highlighted something. fed up to be honest as if it is injector issues im screwed

book it in and he should be able to identify what's happening. is the egr hard coded out with a blank plate as well as the software coded out?
Bobby recomended when i booked it with him, that I get some EGR blank plates from ebay as it was only software coded out by the first mapper.
Maybe that was what resolved mine and could be helpful to you? hard to say as Bobby also completely remapped it with his own map and added in the plates i got from ebay at the same time.

yeah im going down in the morning. Im not sure if hes used blanking plates but deffo done through the map. Ive had a few diesels that ive had dpf delete and egr (without plates) never any issues. After looking at some youtube videos of the smoke from dead injector(s) ive convinced myself its that..... but it clears kinda when warm so im crossing my fingers for something else

All due respect but in the grr tuning scene there are several very very well known mappers who are hugely respected and booked up months in advance.

The reality is most people are happy when they get extra power and torque and so positively review. Trouble is any idiot can get more power from a remap, especially a turbo charged car. The real skill is to keep the fuelling correct, to run the lowest fuel they safely can without producing extra high egts and keeping the spot down. Same goes with the timing (ignition or injection depending on petrol or diesel).

Consider that people fiercely defend their own decision and very rarely get a second remap done elsewhere to compare the mapped skill.

It takes a lot of knowledge to appreciate the difference but drive the two side by side and you will feel the difference between just getting more power and getting a really good remap, especially off boost.

That was meant to say GTR tuning scene.

I forgot to say that among the GTR tuners, I’ve seen directly at least one map of one company that everyone swears by. I’ve seen that same map installed in a car on the dyno and then retuned by another company.

Power went up by 50bhp without changing the boost. Soot levels went down, fuel consumption down and drivability on and off boost improved massively though this is subjective.

Point is until you’ve seen better you often don’t know how bad your map is. Much of it comes down to the feel of the car when driving, not just the numbers which are the easiest part.

As @Meemo had perfectly pointed out. I had the egr software coded out but the actual egr itself was untouched. Never thought nothing of it as others ive had done the same.... For some reaseon this one wasnt to happy, so made some blanking plates, blanked it of...... Fired her up and jobs a good un!

    Glad it's sorted :)
With the egr, it was suggested to me that it isn't always fully shut when coded out through software alone, whether this means a slight open or fully open I don't know, but using a blanking plate just ensures it is 'sealed' shut.. atleast that was what I was under the impression of when it was suggested to me.

Boys..... Well unfortunately it turns out there was no winner. A few days later same symptons. This time it was cranking over alot longer before firing.

I put up with it for a few days but with winter pretty much here, time to get it sorted.

So, i wanted an oil and a few filters changing. And a good looking at, turbo off etc. Problem found! A glow plug wasnt even in! The right side top one, pulled the other two out and they were creampied from compensating being a plug down.... New plugs in (actually in this time) no white smoke at all, and fires up like a dream.
