Using aftermarket sub and headunit with BOSE speakers

Hi all,

Is it straight forward to use an aftermarket sub/amp with my current BOSE speakers using an aftermarket Android head unit?

Can I just wire the sub into the sub input on the head unit, whilst retaining the original speakers. Or would this also cause the BOSE sub to be active? Can it be bypassed easily? Or am I looking at replacing all speakers to do this successfully?
