short answer: either, theyre basically the same.

longer answer:
288mm and 312mm pads are the same, but there seem to be a very slight (by slight, i mean literally a mm difference in width) between available 312mm pads.

so,
1ZE=288mm. oem pad pn 5K0698151
1LJ=312mm. oem pad pn 5K0698151
1ZA=312mm. oem pad pn 3C0698151C
1ZD=312mm. oem pad pn 3C0698151D

1ze and 1lj pad part number matches up with brembo P 85 075
1za and 1zd pad part number match up with P 85 146
check the dimensions of both, they are practically identical. i have used the 3C0698151C on 288mm discs before, no issue. i also have done the 312mm upgrade (much better btw) https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/front-brake-discs.420866/post-3617786

all 3 312mm pr codes use the same caliper, same carrier and same discs. there isnt an explanation for the slightly different pads. i would personally buy the cheaper of the two.

btw, you know the calipers are the same right? there is no benefit to using the 312mm calipers, youll just be wasting your time.

Thanks so much for the clarification on sizes of pads, I couldn't find much information on it. I need a new caliper on one side and it's seized so I said why not buy both and upgrade and get them in Red.
