@T-800 Think AN means if you map it back and don't tell future owner, then they struggle to get warranty extended.

I'd imagine getting an extended warranty on a TD1 car would be refused anyway once it's on Audi's system.

This puts me off buying a second hand RS3 to be honest, I personally wouldn’t want anything that’s been modded. I’m looking at changing out my S3 for an RS3 in the summer and would most likely only consider used approved Audi’s rather than brand new this time around which means to avoid potential TD1 flags I could only consider ex demo’s / fleet cars which will never have been modified. Or would Audi’s magical 145 point check identify any flags for regular part ex’s etc?

Cars like the RS3 will always have a higher chance of having been modded.

I have purchased a secondhand car that was remapped and was unsure at first. But after meeting the owner (middle aged, married with kids etc) and him seeming a sensible guy who was upfront with everything, I bought it and never regretted a thing.

Specialist called me and upon firther inspection he said that it was NOT the 3rd cylinder fuel injector and it was in fact just a ******** ECU.
In fact, he had seen nothing like it and the actual components on the ECU or epprom (I dont know the difference) were very dodgy and actually loose and he was surprised it hadn't failed in my year of ownership.

So, Audi was right and it is indeed just an ECU and the cost is the same unfortunately.

I just need to find proof that the car was NOT modded by me and I can push back on the Supercar dealer that sold it to me.

Glad you got down to what the exact problem was. Now, just hope your fight with the dealer who sold you the car goes well.

Maybe seeking advise regarding trading standards etc would help? Say the right things to the dealer, and you will probably get solution you need. Let them then fight for any costs incurred with the guy who signed the disclaimer to say it was standard.

What makes you think Audi will take the TD1 flag off the cars history though ?

It won't be a given.

So makes extending a non existent warranty pointless......

That’s what I meant, pointless reverting to standard because you won’t then lose the TD1 flag. Damage is done, keep the improved mapped car.

Yeah exactly, so you don’t gain anything by going back to a stock map because in Audi’s eyes it is already mapped. Instead, better off going for a good Stage 1 map as the damage is done, no doubt the cars will drive a lot smoother with a map... never been out in a mapped RS.

I don’t think it would be flagged until the car got taken to a workshop, so a new owner would be able to buy the warranty and then subsequently lose his money.

You never know.

It could recognise the Reg if the car is known to already have a marker against it.

Either way, next owner of a modded / abused car loses.

You say that but I used to work at Audi and some people used to put tuning boxes on their demos! Although once removed your all good
