Just got my renewal and its gone up £50.
I am a year older, the car is a year older, circumstances have not changed, I have no more points added to my license and the car is now parked in secure storage but I am 49 and now paying £1310 F/C for a 7 year old A4 S-Line Avant.

I get the feeling that there is a 18 year old with an S3 living in Beirut who is paying less

That's ridiculously expensive. I'm only £224 FC. A3 Sport TDI. No secure parking, on drive with 15 years no claims. I hope you shopped about for a better price?

I live in B8, I think Syria currently has a lower risk rating. Although the car isn't parked her they say the car will still visit the area hence the high cost.
I used to preach that with insurance you get what you pay for, but it seems like I am paying to cover everyone else in this area who isn't insured.

Just tried a certain meerkat related site for a laugh, only 2 companies would offer a quote. One, Bewise at £1311.00 and the other, Insurewise, wanted ....

Wait for it....

£10881.00

Aviva at £1310.00 doesn't seem that bad after all.

Have you looked on the website of the company you are with I do and most years its cheaper on line and I complain,
they should be giving loyal customers discount .

I feel someone has some explaining to do. Got a quote direct from Aviva. Added Euro cover, protected no claims and legal cover for the grand sum of £722.50.
And with personal business use £763.50.

Chris Knott, I await your call.

That's crazy Paul, and I thought £650 for my A6 with 370bhp and business use declared was expensive!

Nick,
Yes thank you. I received a call and went through it all and your system was checked and double checked to no avail as you are being quoted a much higher price by Aviva than I am.
Even when I said I would have to cancel with you and go direct Melinda still offered her help and assistance, contacting Aviva to check my claim history so my form submission to Aviva was accurate and also sent though my proof of no claims while I was still on the phone with her. Absolutely fantastic customer service, cannot fault it in anyway and you are still highly recommended.

I'm glad you're happy with our service, I'm sorry we have to lose you. Please try us again in future when your circumstances will have changed.

Seems a lucrative market this car insurance.

You need it, they sell it.

There definitely is scope here for improvement in the way this operates.
It is a bit old fashioned and ridiculous using post codes as the datum for quotes.

Back in the day, I can remember when you could buy dodgy cover notes..............mmm

*obviously that was illegal, just saying......

Chez, currently associating risk with post code is the best way to do it. Keep your car and drive it in a dodgy area and you are higher risk. It just happens that where I live is on the border of B8, its nice here, but the other part of B8 is the highest for insurance fraud and whiplash claims as well as uninsured drivers.
I don't keep my car here or drive around here much but will be here to unload shopping etc so I am still included in with the higher risk people, which is evident in my 5 non fault claims. I don't drive badly, its the others you have to watch out for, and as this area is full of bad drivers, trust me they are, then I still present as a high risk.
Unfortunate but true.

@ChrisKnottIns . I have been more than happy and really impressed with the service you provided me, my first year with you I saved £300 on renewal with the same company I was already with. Its just that this year they have given me a better price for the same cover than they have given to you so it made sense to go direct with them.
This where the logics of insurance get mystifying. Same cover, same company, same circumstances but vastly different prices.

It's quite annoying isn't it, having to shop around for car insurance annually! Why can't they just give you the 'BEST' quote in the first place? Lol. It's worse when you have 4 cars!

To be honest though, today's car insurance is actually a simple affair for standard cars, you can get quotes and buy instantly online using price comparison sites, and they are effective! But unfortunately, I don't do 'standard' on my own cars, so I end up shopping around for insurance with modified car specialists. The site sponsors naturally offer the best deals for enthusiasts like myself, and you just have to call them all up to get the best possible deal!
