My car is coming up for its first service since I’ve owned it (currently full Audi service history) it’s due it’s interim service which as we all know is basically an oil and oil filter change.

I plan to use the stealership for servicing just until the warranty runs out (2021). I will of course be using an independent for the haldex oil change and filter clean.

Anyhow, the interim cost is £195 which is just insane tbh’ but I’m prepared to pay it. Do people usually buy there own genuine oil and filter and give it to Audi to replace? How much cheaper does it make it? Are there are cons to doing this?

Thanks :)

I don't think all dealerships will allow you to provide own parts anyway. I seem to remember @AudiNutta (I think) trying to supply his own oil and they wanted him to sign some forms or some nonsense.

I don't really see the point though of getting it serviced with Audi anyway till warranty is up. Mine had 2 services in the 3 years/29k miles. First was done by Audi because Audi UK were paying as a goodwill gesture. Second it went to an indy, who said there was a coolant leak. So I just took the car to Audi with 3 days left of warranty for them to fix it.

It was updated by the indy on the Audi system online anyway so it's all there for tracking etc.

Compared to other quotes tho, £195 doesn't sound too bad... I'm sure the bill I got for mine (which audi UK paid for) was like £500 for oil and filters.

That is as you say an insane price for an oil change. :openmouth:
I have just booked my first oil change service on my S3 at the dealer where I bought it. The price would be £174 but thankfully I will not be paying for it because I negotiated this as part of the original purchase.
The prices really are ridiculous!!

Was this the very first scheduled service on your car from brand new?
Surely this is cannot be correct for simply an oil and filter change.......nobody in their right mind would pay that. :openmouth::openmouth:

That’s about normal price at dealers.
I wonder why you say that you will get the service done at the dealer for warranty reasons but get the haldex done at an independant?

People have been asked for more than that by Audi dealers!

I bought the car second hand from Audi - it had already had its first minor and first major done. It’s coming up 3 years old/30k so due it’s 3rd service this being just an oil and filter change.

I’m not sure if Audi have changed their stance on this but it’s has been a well documented fact (examples easily found on this site) where Audi will only replace haldex oil they won’t actually clean the filter element where as an Indy will clean the filter element.

I’ve just bought 10l of millers nanodrive cfs nt+ oil for £96. 7l of that will be used on the oil change, making it about £70 for oil. Filter is £10-15. Labour is 30 minutes on this, which should be about £30. You should be paying £105-115 MAX for an oil change. Add another £30 on for 30 minutes labour for a full interim service.

This could be made even cheaper if 5w30 Castrol is used.

And if you pick a good indie they will even update the online service history for you.

@TomBlueS3 I wasn't referring to you in my post....look at who I quoted. :innocent:
It was the £500 price I was shocked at.

I bought the car at 13k miles but there was no record of it being serviced before then. So yeh this service as far as I know was its first, around 18k I think. I'll have to dig up the breakdown later.. The oil alone I seem to remember was £100+

For a main dealer under £200.00 is cheap. My main delaer wanted £350.00 on my RS3 yes a bit more oil but crazy price. The Audi - VW specialist ive used for years did the full factory recomended service with orginal parts for £135.00.

Been through a similar experience myself recently and looked at the dealership because it was convenient at that particular time. Even with playing off two dealers against each other I wasn’t able to get them sub £200, which is still ludicrous.

In the end went with my usual indie guy whose great, despite it being less convenient at the time. Just made sure I kept the receipts too as it’s still in warranty.

Cheers,

Chris

Dealer mark up on oil really is extortionate!
When you think how much cheaper you could buy the exact same oil yourself. :(
Net prices..

Oil and inspection service with a pollen filter change £262.50

Dust filter: £19.76
Shell helix ultra av: £94.40 (5.9litre)
Filterelem: £10.34
(couple of <£5 things)

Net total £392
£78 VAT
TOTAL: £470

The best thing to do is get a quote from an independent and then see if your stealership will price match.

Otherwise, whilst the car is under warranty the you should just lump it and just pay. If you start having work done elsewhere to save a few quid and then something expensive goes wrong it gives Audi someone to blame to order to avoid paying out. trust me, if they can get away with it they will so don't give them the option. Seriously...

Around £200 hour at my local dealer.

I agree that dealer rates for servicing etc are expensive but they have a business to run with massive overheads.
We all love going into the lovely flashy showroom to browse when we want a new car, and then screw them down on price. They have to make their money somewhere. And we do have independants we can use to save money.

It’s just like Epson and HP printers. You buy one for less than £50 but the cartridges are very expensive.
