Seat belt sausages??

Hi all,
I've just picked up an A4 avant quattro which I absolutely love. This may be a silly question but there are two long sausage type things attached to the seat belt clips that are stuffed down the sides of the seats. Does anyone know what these are actually for?

they look like they stop things disappearing down the side of the seat

I think they have been added by a previous owner to stop things from disappearing down the side of the seats. They are not OEM.

I like the logic of going to the trouble of printing "quattro" on them and then it's totally lost when stuffed in place
