Screaming noise from turbo

I have a 1.9tdi aws with 175k
Last few days Iv'e heard what sounded like a slipping belt noise, but today got much worse & seems to be coming from the turbo!
I assume the bearings have gone & the blades are rubbing on the inside of the housing of the turbo? Has anybody fitted a new cartridge, rather than the cost of a new turbo, how difficult is it to replace, anything I should look out for?

Other than removal & refitting this pretty much covers it.

Funny because some people fit "screamer pipes" to have this kind of noise haha.

I've fitted a few cartridges in my time to other cars and it's fairly easy. Buy ones that are ready balanced and you just pop it in. Does indeed sound like the blades are chipped. My Xtrail carried on for 20k miles like that, but.......
