Releasing electronic handbrake on axel stands

Is it possible to release the electronic handbrake while in axel stands as my car automatically puts the handbrake on once engine is off.
I'm wanting to paint the disc bells as they are rusty and wanting to be able to rotate the disc.
Usually if have a normal handbrake can leave the car in gear release the handbrake which will hold it but don't think I can do that.
Any thoughts??
Or am I going to have to paint most of it, wheel back on, drive formats, wheel off and paint last bit?

press the brake pedal with ignition on and turn off the handbrake as normal

Then keep engine running, because I think my handbrake automatically comes on when engine is off. Will have to test.
Do I just chock the wheels to stop it moving usually would keep it in gear but can't do that if engine needs to be on.

dont need the engine running, just turn it off like i described

Yeah that worked thanks, it autmatautomat comes on but can disengage as you described by pressing foot brake and then the handbrake.
