    As I haven't done a poll for a while ...

Have you got / ordered the red brake caliper option on the S3?

For me its a no, I prefer the black version :thumbs up:

Personally, I think Audi are taking the mick at £325 for a coat of red paint :keule:

I've had red callipers and painted them myself on my 8L and 8P S3's, cost about £15 for proper calliper paint and brushes. Again not sure if I'll bother on this one, part of me think the brakes should be black as they look a little small lol

I had red brake calipers on my previous A4, looks nice at first but you get tired of them after a while and want to go back to black being neutral colour lol

I think it is colour dependent. With Sepang it just doesn't look right. With however black, white or Misano I think it looks smart.
The cost audi are charging is a joke though.

It's not an option in Australia. It's standard kit.

I don't mind it. Black does look good to!

Definite NO from me and how much for a bit of red paint? Makes it even more of a no!

Would be ok if the calliper clips were red too.

Im a bit annoyed at myself for ticking it, I could quite easily paint it myself via the methods mentioned previously.

    :sorry:

I wondered about this, then thought how well the red set the awful Sepang Blue (which is not to be recommended) off and decided to tick the box. Really pleased I did.
But I do agree that the cost is excessive!

I like it on the colour that shall not be named how ever I didn't tick the box it's not worth what Audi are charging, If I decide I want them I'll be painting them my self!

Got to disagree with you about Sepang and the red callipers, and I'm glad I added them when I changed to Sepang

But the price is a joke, if you pay the full amount, but you can say that about most of the Audi options (£450 for Sat nav, £595 for metallic paint etc.)

Fortunately as we are all have different tastes PG, there shouldn't be 2 sepang blue S3 saloons alike ;) :thumbs up:

Metallic paint at £525 ain't too bad IMHO when you compare it with £325 for the red calipers alone :keule:

Metallic paint at £525 is very good because you'd pay more than that getting your whole car resprayed, but it doesn't cost £325 to colour your brake callipers.

Choose the ones you think is worth it now and not regret it later.

I doubt that the coating as applied by the brake caliper manufacturer is a red coat of paint.

It's most likely Powder Coat, or Stove Enamel, in which case £325 is easier to stomach.

I'd rather put the money towards some bigger brakes OR just have them done myself

You do realise, that Audi UK Customer Services wouldn't know the difference between painted and powder coated!!!

They have been foxed many a time by a slightly technical query!

I'm amazed they came back to you within 2 hours on your question, considering this isn't even one if their components!

Whether it's nice or not or worth it is a question for each individual to answer. I do agree that the supplier has to paint them and ideally red paint is no more expensive than black paint. There is a little masking but I think the cost is higher than it should be.

But do I like the red callipers? You bet your ass I do. Do I want (at my age) to be on hands and knees painting the callipers on the car? You bet your wife I don't. Am I so smitten (this my own opinion and other opinions are available) that I would begrudgingly pay the price? You fffing bet I did.

There's a guy local to me that does powder coating, it's relatively inexpensive.

As with all these coatings, prep is key to achieving a durable coating and finish.

    Some lovely examples here:

Totally not worth the money... you can paint them yourself for £15 quid - bit of a no brainer!

Think I'm going lime green on mine (black OR gunmetal grey wheels) when it comes :).

Don't think on a new car I'd go down the route of stripping the callipers off a new car with all the pain of having to bleed such a complicated system.

Don't need to take the calipers off to do a decent job. You can either tape up and spray them or paint them with small brushes like I did. I used Hammerite smooth and they've come up really well. Granted you could do a better job if you took them off, but the difference would be barely noticeable if you did them in situ.

I've painted many callipers in situ, my response was more aimed at those people suggesting getting them powder coated..

Hey Challinor, it's Glacier White :). Thought I'd go for something a bit different; my mate has yellow calipers on his 8P Ibis White S3 and it looks the dog's ********! Red and blue is too common so the lime green in contrast to the body paint and darker wheels should work well.

Don't think I've seen any with painted calipers apart from the standard red or black. Pics welcomed, when you doing yours then? Straight away?
