I wondered about this, then thought how well the red set the awful Sepang Blue (which is not to be recommended) off and decided to tick the box. Really pleased I did.
But I do agree that the cost is excessive!

Why are those alloys 18"? I thought they were 19" standard?
I think it is colour dependent. With Sepang it just doesn't look right. With however black, white or Misano I think it looks smart.
The cost audi are charging is a joke though.
Got to disagree with you about Sepang and the red callipers, and I'm glad I added them when I changed to Sepang
But the price is a joke, if you pay the full amount, but you can say that about most of the Audi options (£450 for Sat nav, £595 for metallic paint etc.)

Whether it's nice or not or worth it is a question for each individual to answer. I do agree that the supplier has to paint them and ideally red paint is no more expensive than black paint. There is a little masking but I think the cost is higher than it should be.
But do I like the red callipers? You bet your *** I do. Do I want (at my age) to be on hands and knees painting the callipers on the car? You bet your wife I don't. Am I so smitten (this my own opinion and other opinions are available) that I would begrudgingly pay the price? You fffing bet I did.
Not sure how much power dipping would be if painting wasn't a option, anyone ever had it done? Guess a fair bit as have to remove them all.
There's a guy local to me that does powder coating, it's relatively inexpensive.
As with all these coatings, prep is key to achieving a durable coating and finish.
Some lovely examples here:

Yer some of those are sweet, how much roughly then?
Don't need to take the calipers off to do a decent job. You can either tape up and spray them or paint them with small brushes like I did. I used Hammerite smooth and they've come up really well. Granted you could do a better job if you took them off, but the difference would be barely noticeable if you did them in situ.
Totally not worth the money... you can paint them yourself for £15 quid - bit of a no brainer!
Think I'm going lime green on mine (black OR gunmetal grey wheels) when it comes .
Those callipers could look cool mate, what colour is the car?
Hey Challinor, it's Glacier White . Thought I'd go for something a bit different; my mate has yellow calipers on his 8P Ibis White S3 and it looks the dog's ********! Red and blue is too common so the lime green in contrast to the body paint and darker wheels should work well.
