Whilst the old girl is in for the EGR valve replacement (3 days and counting due to wrong part being ordered.....) they advised that the rear brake pads are down to 5mm and will need replaced in a few months time. Offered to do it for £570 inc vat.

I'm right in thinking a decent brake pad is about £65 retail, so £130 a pair....... Does the job need VCDS? Could I buy the pads and just throw into my local independent and have them fit for an hour or so labour?

Wow!! Pad do retail at about £70 for a complete for the rear
I'm having a new set for the front next week, throwing on some new disks too. £30 labour

Sorry - you are right - had a look and £65-£100 a pair.

Good old Audi - never miss a chance to grab some of my kids inheritance with a big old markup.....

Crikey, what an amazing quote! lol

Buy the parts, and pay me £100 to fit them, you'll still have enough change to do it a second time! for £570, the discs must be made of gold?

Yes you do need VCDS to wind off the handbrake

Me and my mate replaced mine a couple of months ago :)

The job would be simple bar for everything being seized on!!

For £570 I'd want one of them to be ceramic !!!!! (That would be brilliant for the MOT..... "brakes stop fine, sir, but it's the 360 degree spin every time they are applied that I'm going to fail you on!)
