Q3 Climate Control 8P Retrofit

On my 2011 car the whole thing popped as one ... bought a set of tools from Amazon which worked perfectly. Prised it off from the bottom edge on either side.

Yup, on =>MY2010 cars its one complete unit. They made a mess of the alignment on the 2009 cars so they changed it to a fixed unit.

The one I have purchased looks like this (minus the heated seats)

Also link the tools you purchased from Amazon plz :)

Hi mate, can you give me some more details on your leather knee pads? This is how the S3 should have come as std... I hate the cheap ***** plastic originals.

Is it a retro fit? or custom job?

To the unit you bought. It's maybe a chinese copy? Lol

Haha, well that pic I posted is from the parkers review of the Q3. I got a little worried about the difference but will just have to find out if it works or not when it arrives.

I also love the Leather bits on the side, I've not found where to get them yet either

I saw both versions when searching for my HVAC panel. Not sure which models had the version without the manual re circulation button, but both are genuine. Not sure if it would work ,but personally I went with the one similar to the A3 unit to retain the manual re-circulation option.

The leather parts are part of the RS3 exclusive leather pack options. You can buy them direct from Audi. They sometimes come up on ebay also. You can get door handles, roof grab handles, sun visors, gear gaiter, hand brake handle, knee rests, centre arm rest, door leather panel with exclusive badge and ofcourse the bucket seats. I have all but the bucket seats as I thought they were a little overkill in a TDI ;).

Some joker is trying to sell the rs3 knee rests for £500 on ebay.

tell me that isn't the going rate? and he's sticking 'RS' tax on them

Are they more reasonably priced direct from audi?

id love to sort my s3 interior out... its plastic plastic plastic as far as the eye can see... !

The door arm rests for example are SH*TE!

I would like to do that non smoker retrofit too!

Both versions have the recirculation option, the lower left button is a double press with 2 leds. But should turn up tomorrow and I will feedback if it works and what you gain/loose

I'd love to know the audi cost of those rs3 leather knee rests

Well it's all fitted and working perfectly. I decided to completely dismantle them both, taking the buttons out and switching them over too. So now I have the ability to switch off the climate control!

I have an airbag light though but I think that's because I turned on the ignition with the passenger airbag warning light unplugged. Gonna get it on vag com tomorrow

Why did you have the switch for the airbag out?

And you can switch off the climate unit by pressing the - button until it reaches the bottom :p

i just changed the leds in the panel to white and changed the red filter behind the screen to a white/opaque one .

Can you put down where you got the Q3 control from please :)

Baz

The light, not the switch. The one that's on the panel next to the hazard light switch.

And yeah that works too

It wasn't a switch, it was the passenger side light. And yeah there's that, but now I just click

Completed today ... as mentioned earlier don't bother with trimming the Q3 unit - just swap over the PCB into the A3 housing. Couple of protrusions on the interior of the fascia side needed to be trimmed to re-assemble the unit and then pop back in. So easy. Amazing how much more classy the white on black display looks ...

Do you still need the Q3 unit without the circuit board?
Wondering if my orig A3 one will fit in?
Im really only after the push button seat heating update.

Baz

Baz
His version wouldn't have had heated seats.

The boards/casings are not interchangeable with seat heating.

You'd need to buy a complete Q3 unit with heated seats and trim/sand it down to fit.

yeah you won't 100% won't be able to Q3 board into the A3 housing if u have heated seats, its a doddle if you don't though.

Anyways finally got round to getting VCDS hooked up to the car and i set off quite a few faults for having things unplugged when i turned on the ignition! so guys don't do what i did and turn on the ignition without making sure everything is plugged in before testing!

I am still getting a fault shown on VCDS from the new climate control board, it doesn't seem to be causing any problems though but obviously it would be be better if it wasn't faulted. Can anyone with more VCDS experience offer any help/advice as i don't really know much about it

It says no signal/communication however it has picked up the fact the new part number as the 8U gives it away. Is it something as simple as renaming the label somehow?

I was intrigued regarding this mod when I first saw the Q3. However, at night, to have just one section light up white is IMHO a waste. It lacks continuity. It needs a balance of other white LEDs to complete the look so will just save my money for other mods BUT big props for you doing the mod!

I disagree - IMO the red display actually looks out of place and rather dated. The the continuity is there with the updated white DIS and white on sections of the RNS-E.

Yeah I agree with downtothebone, if I still had my symphony installed, then it will have looked out of place. Bearing in mind that the clocks have 3 white LCDs so it was the only odd one out. Looks lovely with the RNS-E and although it costs a bit it really seems worth it haha

Got one sent over from an UK Audi wrecker :)
Fits OK 2010 S3 sportback....heated seats.
I ground 2.5mm off each side (left and right) on a sanding belt.
Removed the metal clips.
Removed the switch panel above climatronic.
Removed old climatronic.
Replaced climatronic and switch panel.
Cleared fault codes and adjusted as per earlier post above in vcds for the heated seats..
"with VCDS open the HVAC controller, click adaption, change the value of channel 26 from 65 to 55 to reduce temp".

.Working good.;)

i don't think it looks better, that's why audi left it red n upgraded only the main display, it sticks out like a sore thumb...sorry, just my opinion...

There you go.. I think it looks better anyway.:icon thumright:

Removed the metal clips to make removal easy if required as orig was VERY tight. (doesnt seem to need them anyway)

Has anyone with these Q3 panels noticed that the screen auto dims in the dark and brightens in the light?

I thought i was just having issues till i went into a tunnel today just as i was changing the temperature and i seen the backlight brighten. My old panel didn't do this

Still working perfectly and looks so much better than the old red

Yup mine does that too, seems to run off whichever sensor does the automatic instrument cluster dimming too.

Seems to keep the last settings if you are seated when you start the car too.

My wife uses the heated seat option a lot. sooo much easier with a push button than the rotary knob

Seen a couple of threads unanswered a couple of years ago so thought I'd put this up.

I've fitted it, requires some trimming on the sides but other than that, its plug & play.

Part number I used for non-heated seats was 8U0 820 043 B.

Looks so far better than the old red LCD!

How did you manage to get the old one out I've been tryin but no luck

Take the trim off which surrounds the hazard light switch and then pull the climate unit towards you from the top.

Thought I'd share my problem here.. I did this retrofit on my MY2012 A3, and the Climate works fine (though it gives the error code for no signal/communication), EXCEPT with the webasto.

I have factory fitted aux heater (webasto), and when I press the button in the remote, dashboard light's up and I can see heater icon but after 1 second dash goes dark and the heater does not fire up and the Climate does not light up either. Same happens if I try to use timers from the instrument cluster. The heater fires up on manual start-up from instrument cluster normally.

I think theres some adaptation channels that I need to tinker with on the HVAC unit, as the remote didn't cause any response until I changed the value of adaptation channel 17 from "0" to "1" on HVAC (Used Q7 instructions as reference). Does anyone else have this problem?

Below is the full VCDS scan right after the retrofitting. Only the communication error fault code (Control Module for Network (J519)) keeps popping up after clearing.
