So the 2016 S3 I purchased three weeks ago is going back to the dealer. They've agreed to take the car back and give me a full refund......Since picking the car up I've had nothing but issues with it......The issues started the day after I collected it. On start up I was kept getting a message saying that there was a fault with the headlight range level sensor. I called the dealer and they told me to take the car for a diagnostic check. So after calling my local garage I found out they had a diagnostic and would be happy to help. I was able to call round that day. After the diagnostic check was carried out several faults appeared. Sunroof issue, ignition issue, headlight range level sensor, camshaft position sensor, tyre pressure monitoring issue, cooling fan issue.....Those are the ones I can remember. In this point I thinks its pertinent to mention the car has a FASH and has covered just 34000 miles.
I called the dealer back and they said it would be best to take the car back and they would have they garage sort out all the issues. They loaned me a BMW 420d, which I hated.....Horrible.....I'll never buy a BMW. Anyway I got a call on the third day informing me that the S3 needed 2 new timing chains!? Two new timing chains with only 34000 on the clock? Surely it should just need adjustment? This was causing the Camshaft position sensor fault apparently. Finally a week later I was told I could collect the car. All other faults had been cleared and all necessary work carried out.
I had the car back one day and decided to give it a polish in the nice sunshine. The car is Panther Black Crystal so had plums and greens and golds in it depending on the sunlight.....I noticed that the passenger side rear bumper was a totally different black. I hadn't noticed this before because when I viewed the car it was chucking it down and also when I collected it. So it has clearly had bump of some sort in the passed and they've done a terrible job of matching the paint.
I've also since noticed that the sunroof wind deflector had a hole in it. Then I started getting another fault. Vehicle Electronics Fault. Shift to P before leaving vehicle. Contact mechanic. So I called the dealer and again was told to take it to a local garage and have the fault diagnosed. So I booked the car in for tomorrow.
Yesterday we decided to go for a drive......It was chilly and raining so decided to put the eating on (not a/c heating). After several miles we confirmed that there wasn't any heating at all.....Just cold air.....Then we noticed a strong smell of petrol.....I pulled over and popped the bonnet.....After close inspection I could see oil and fuel pooling all over the top of the bell housing......I immediately called the owner of the garage....Within minutes he said bring it back for a full refund or see if there is anything else in stock you fancy.....I chose the refund. Nothing against the garage at all there customer service has been excellent and they have bent over backwards trying to sort this out. I'm genuinely disappointed as the car was an excellent spec. But I just felt that enough was enough. I've lost all confidence in the car and think it's just going to be problem after problem. Perhaps it's just one of those cars........
On the upside however I have put a deposit on this......It's a better spec than the one I'm taking back.....Picking it up tomorrow
