these questions have probably been asked before so please be patient i used the search but no joy.

i have just bought a 99 b5 s4 and after reading through several posts have a few questions, what is the F-Hose delete mod, tbb problems?, how to tell if dv are faulty, and what if any other mods are worth doing on a 130k motor.

also when i turn my headlights on one does not rise up like the other you have to turn ignition on and off several times with the lights on and slowly each time the light moves up a bit? is it just the adjuster motor or something else.
thanks and again i am new to these cars so any help would be great cheers

going by what i have learned from b5s.... 1.8 turbos any ways is... buy a new DV, buy a new N75 valve. you have peice of mind then that those 2 small but essentual parts are sorted. go for a aftermarket forge re-circ as the factory ones are shat!

thats all the advice i can give you im afraid as im no expert and i have not got a S4!!

Welcome to the forum btw! :)

I'd recommend you get yourself to a specialist for a healthcheck. They'll pressure test it, check the DV's, TBB, F-hose etc. for leaks. It's the best £40-50 you'll spend on a new S4. I would recommend getting 710N divertor vales rather than the Forge ones, as they will set you back around £40+ for a pair and they have been faultless on my 400bhp S4.

The F-hose delete is a good mod to get rid of the tear prone F-hose. This mod is purely for reliablity, so get it done asap!

The auto-levelling problem on your light does sound like the motor. If it is, no worries as these are only about £18 for a new one.

Have you run any Vagcom checks on it?

As for other mods, there is a shopping list as long as my arm. Depends on what you want out of the car. I got a remap which was truely awesome for the price, then had to upgrade brakes as they couldn't cope with the extra power... then new anti-roll bars, then a DTS (drive-train stabiliser)... it can get out of hand!

Defo recommend getting a short shifter, 710N valves and perhaps some replacement silicone hoses, depending on how yours are looking.

Where are you based?

other side of the water to you, on the wirral. how weird is that. the whole world to choose from and i live less than probably 20 miles away

excuse my ignorance but what is the f-hose?

its already mapped and i think lots of the common niggles sorted out by the previous but one owner but no receipts and last owner couldn't remember exactly what had been done. so problem is i look under the bonnet and as i am not familiar with this engine all looks as it should but probably isn't so i need to talk to specialist in s4s i think, and recommendations in north west?

The F-hose is literally an F shaped hose just underneath the drivers side DV. It's yet another common failure point on the S4.

Get yourself down to Unit 20 in Neston (http://www.unit20.org) for a healthcheck. Grizz and Pete will sort you out, and they'll take you for a guided tour of the S4 engine bay!

Don't suppose your S4 is purple is it?

i think it might be YELLOW!!!!! not sure though

cheers i will call down in next couple of days if work allows

That does look nice
I was looking at getting a lelow avant miself
but the fiance wouldnt allow it:no:

Abit too loookatmeee she said, What does she know?

Anyways I like the stripe, was thinking of doin it myself with a dark grey/gunmetal colour against the black or even matt black
You may have spured me on abit with yours, wat u think? :eyebrows:

i must admit the stripe was on when i bought it and was not sure at all. its painted on and a pearl colour in some lights its not visible in others it is so obvious . but it is growing on me. you could always get some made in vinyl so always take them off if you dont like them. i guess im stuck with mine as no plans on getting it resprayed, however i might have a play on photoshop to see what a gloss black roof look like:idea:

Yeah a black roof would look cool, its a good look. Also makes the car look lower and wider.

Do the stripes run down the bumpers and tailgate as well?

yes front to back will post some pics when damm rain stops. just went round to friends house earlier this evening he hadnt seen the car before and didnt even notice the stripes till i pointed them out after about 5 mins

get it to unit 20 - Grizz and Pete will check her out and advise you on anything you want plus give you the honest low down on all your questions

who has mapped it?

it has an apr chip which has 4 maps stored and is adjustable via the cruise control stalk

is the after run mod the different temp sensor to run the fans sooner?

That's the one. The fans will run and the coolant will still be pumped round when the oil temp is 90 degrees or over rather than 120 degrees which the original sensor kicks in at (which you should never really see unless you are on a track).

Not tempted to know what that APR chip is kicking out... on a rolling road perhaps?
