Would anyone else like a 'sticky' where one could give the reg of your car and give a brief resume of it?
Something prospective owners could consult?
Or is it a bit of a stretch to think prospective owners would come onto this website before buying??
I saw my old car the other day and I just felt so bad for the new owner.
But short of hanging around the dealer, what could I do?:sorry:

I can never understand that one.

big long list of reg plates on the net, or big long list in tesco's car park....

What difference does it make, its hardly confidential information

LOL...me neither, never bothered blanking out my out myself. And your right, my cars on parked up all day in various places. Outside my parents, outside the shops etc...

Be pretty slim chance of potential buyers reading it unless they were buying from the classifieds on here in which case you wouldnt want to do it if you were the one selling. Shooting yourself in the foot

I'm not terrible au-fait with how t'internet works, but if someone were to type their prospective car reg into a search engine, would it direct them to the sticky?
Rather than them having to come on here first, kind of thing?

Having just had my plates cloned and gone through a lot of pain with the police I'd be a little miffed if I'd bought a second hand car and found the reg listed on a website.
I know, someone can spot your plate any where, but if my number plate had been listed in easy to find location with reg, model and colour i'd have been really annoyed.
Just a thought, and perhaps I'm a littel over sensitve to the issue right now :sorry:

I'm with you on this, its not like you don't see a few hundred on the roads everyday, doenst take much to sit by the side of the road and make a note of xyz's car's reg plate

I dont think its a bad shout to be honest although two things come to mind.

Firstly, im with some of the others who think a lot of buyers wont even bother researching, and secondly, its no good for people like me who have a private reg because obviously that is coming off the car when i sell.

Exactly!!

For "normal" cars I agree they can be seen everywhere and reg plates even VIN numbers (as they are in the windscreen) can be written down in carparks etc.

BUT...its the specialist thieves that target expensive performance cars....they would have a potential shopping list of reg plates to clone vehicles, I know this would be done on the street but it seems to me as if we would be making a towrags job easier if all they had to do was look on the net at home and hey presto reg numbers of loads of Audi cars!

Believe me people do go on sites like these to glean info about people, where they live what cars and security they have.

Good idea but sadly in todays society, shitbags spoil it!

Good point. It's easier to clone a car while sitting in front of your computer, instead of chancing it in supermarket car parks where you have the general public and security getting in the way. This is why I've always blanked my registration plates when posting pictures online - if I wanted to clone an Audi, I'd be crawling all over this forum looking for a post where some poor user had put up pictures of his pride and joy complete with number plates.

Eventually, it is likely Google would "crawl" such a webpage which means when you type in a registration number in a search engine, it's likely that the related thread would appear. As for the idea itself, I think it's a great but hard to get working in practice.

As above really.... In principle maybe not a bad idea but as others have said, it wouldn't matter if it was a very common car as a low life character could find a fiesta matching a rough description in any supermarket car park.

I've personally never seen another Avus Silver 2.0T S-Line Q on the road (mine's stated as a special edition in the log book also). I've seen an Avus 3.2V6 and 2.0TDI locally but not the 2.0T.... So a criminal would have to go to a LOT of car parks before finding one even similar!

Putting a list online would make it a damn site easier!

Yes, criminals can trawl the Audi used approved network, all the cars on there don't have the reg obscured but that'd be pointless as those cars are off the road. A quick check would show that.

So yeah.... Not a great idea when you're talking about quite rare cars.

My car was cloned when it was parked on the garages forecourt, then got a letter from the police saying i had been involved in a hit and run incident in leeds.

Thankfully when they claimed the incident happend i was actually in america, i hadnt bought the car by then and the garage had CCTV proving the car never left the garage.

but i was one almighty pain in the **** can tell you that. They can clone cars just by hanging around garages and tescos as was mentioned earlier so i dont think there is much of an issue posting the info on here.

If people are concerned about the public visability of the reg's, you could always put it in a 'members only' post and make sure it wasn't indexed for SEO

The way I see it bowfer you have a really good idea which could net you £££s! Couldn't you start a website (say like an HPI check type thing) where for a small fee you could check if previous owner has anything to say about the car.
Of course at first, many people wouldn't know about it but youtube started out this way didn't it!!
The tricky bit is making it popular...!

Bowfer on Dragons Den, I'd like to see that one!!

Its a great idea, and i actually thought about setting up a website base on bowfers suggestion (for which I have the skills to do)

However, it has a number of flaws...

You'd need to be able to prevent people from registering details against plates that dont belong to them

If the site got popular, then dealers will also know about it, and would be doing a check when you go for a part ex, which means you couldn't add the details before you sell it.

Adding details after you have sold, or agreed to sell could land you in all sorts of trouble, eg not disclosing details to the dealer, or adding details about a car you no longer own.

True enough Consilio. Must be a a way of making it work though surely!
