Mysterious problem, any ideas?

Afternoon all,

Had this occurring problem with my a3 for a while now, when the engines cold it'll start first time but when it's warm it turns over for about 5-10 seconds before it starts, tried a few things already and it's even been plugged in and the computer came up with no faults, checked things like the fuel filter and been suggested to get a new temp sensor but can't be doing with throwing more money at it when it's not solving the problem, any ideas? Thanks

If it's a diesel then it's more than likely the starter motor itself.

A failing one has these exact symptoms.

Extremely common.

I had the exact same problem. Replaced the battery and solved it!

When cold, the fuel primes. When warm, the fuel is not primed.
More an experience from my previous VW, but I expect the same (less audible)

More info about the car engine would help, but one is certain - if it's a diesel, it needs hot start remap.

Mine was. 2.0TDI with that problem btw, and as I said battery can fix it.

I'd go to Kwik fit and get a free battery test.
