No other way if describing it but when I start my car, the first few seconds of air that comes out smells like a tramps trousers?

Any ideas?

mines the same, have a search for anti bacteria treatments for the aircon system, this has helped a lot on mine, but the smell is still there, the one i used was auto glymm one

i read some where that the aircon gas should be changed every now and again it maybe that guys just a thought

Pollen filter, it is damp and smells on start up, mine was like it.

I used Wynn's Airco - a DIY job in the air intake and replaced the pollen filter. It's not quite there, but it's 90% better at least.

Sorry Allen but this just cracked me up..LOL

yeah its bacterial build up inside the heater box. (changing the pollen filter is a good idea too.) we use the forte spray can treatment one, its quite good.
set the car up windows shut, engine running, air con on full cold, full fan, set to recirculate.
stand the spray can up in the front passenger footwell, click it down and it sprays constantly for a couple of minutes. set it going shut the door and leave it for 20 mins. then open all the windows, turn it off, and leave it for a hour before driving.

Can this stuff be bought in Halfords. I just changed my pollen filter the other day . Made a really good difference but a slight smell

I bought some Wynns Airco - it's supposed to do two treatments, but I sprayed it all into the air intake at the same time as I swapped the pollen filter.

Has anyone definitively solved this?

About a month ago I changed the pollen filter and used an anti-bacterial aircon cleaner but although it seemed better at first it's back to how it was. In fact after standing for two weeks while I was on hols it's worse.

It's not great carrying new passengers who think "nice car" then get the pong when the blowers come on!

My Airco has sorted it for now. All I can suggest is visiting an aircon specialist for a professional deodorise. Also worth checking the condensation drain for the evaporator as if thats blocked it will cause it to stink.

poundland have them in at the moment, for a quid its cheap as chips :D

scott - they had loads last week in town, where woolies/arseco was
