Music from iPhone via 30 pin wire

Probably an old amateur question but...

I’m wanting to play music in the car (2007, A3 from my I-phone (6). The car has the 30 pin wire in the glove box and was wondering should I get a 30 pin-aux adapter? I brought a 30 pin-lightning adapter but it didn’t work but that may be down to it not being a genuine Apple one!

I simply got one of those bluetooth jobies that you plug in the fag lighter off eblag for £18, you tune it to a non frequency station on your radio & bob's your uncle you play music from your phone through a radio preset, works well.
