Knocking sound. Helpp

I have an audi s3 8l that is making a rather loud knocking sound and is very rough running. Under acceleration you can feel that it is running lumpy and struggling to pick up revs. Is this sound the dreaded conrod or piston or big end knock? Or could it be down to a cracked downpipe?

Thats exhaust.... so blown gasket, split flexi or EGT probe dropped out (if AMK/BAM)

Spot on thank you buddy. I was informed the Downpipe was cracked but it suddenly got alot louder and was worried it had bent a rod. As it is the APY engine code I guess this would not have the egt probe?

No EGT probe on an APY... seems like your crack has turned into a chasm
