Ive started a new post because i think everyone should know about these stupid 2.0 pd 16v engines.

ive finally found the issue but dont know what to do about it.? Head off?

Engine in question 16v pd: they do not have convential hydraulic lifters.

They have 16 rocker arms operating the valves.

they also have a 1 piece cam cap over the whole engine.

My car has what i believe to be complete exhaust lifter failure.

All 8 are springy and 1 is totally shot.

All 8 inlet are fully solid and adjusted up.

Only history of work that i know of is cambelt change prior to my ownership.

Below is a pic and two vids.

faults were.

poor starting.

poor mpg.

Noisey induction.

Slightly noisey engine.

low exhaust pressure out tail pipe.

Poor low rpm power.

poor high rpm power.

95mph top speed.

Please take a look as this car was still drivable and could be the cause of many more problems that people seem to be having.

Pic.

Update....broken tappets.. pics below

Ive managed to remove all exhaust tappets out of the arms which is a very fiddly job. But it is possible.
Firstly you must block oilways to sump icase of debris.
Also cover valve springs to stop debris going in them.
Compressed air in tiny hole on top of arms fires tappets out.
I have 4 broken springs!!
All my inlet tappets are still adjusted up solid after another week without oil.
there is no mechanism in these tappets. Oil just gets pumped into the arms and fills up the tappets. Mine are collapsed and worn slightly on the wobbly bit so suspected timing issue causing valve contact or oil starvation causing dry running.

Well this is unbelieveable.
I have cured the fault with the audi.
It was a tiny roll pin that had failed allowing the rocker shaft to spin freely thus making the oil holes face in the wrong direction.
Its another example of how stupid these engines are.
I aligned the shaft and fitted new roll pin and now i have oil to the tappets.
Hopefully this was a human error causing the roll pin to be damaged and not another mechanical failure to add to the list for the 16v tdi

Hi ukaudi, ive recently just checked my tappets and found that 3-4 are spongy both inlet and exhaust and the short rocker arm tappet on cylinder one is completely shot, the rest are tight, where did you buy the replacement tappets that fit into the arms?..
My issues are

Poor starting hot and cold
Thumping through air box
Alot of engine noise

Car runs ok when its started and no emitting of smoke

Look forward to your reply
