Names Paul, I just bought a real dog of an 8L S3 about 3 weeks ago with the intention of restoring it to its original state, its got 155k on the clock, the wheels are shot to ****, the nsf wing is crumpled, the passenger seat is damaged, the glovebox is broken, the drinks holder is broken, the bonnet has had a terrible repair done, the fromt bumper looks like its been painted with heat proof matt black, the rear bumper is damaged, the lights are yellow as anything and only one works, the other works but the brackets that hold it in are snapped, the engine has been messed with by a blithering idiot, the exhaust has a slight blow on it , it has a coolant leak on it, neither electric windows work, one has snapped cables and the other just does its own thing, hte azard lights dont work, the interior light flashes on and off on its own and creates a huge battery drain and the battery warning light it on faint all the time. Other than that, shes tip top :)

Seriously though, I wanted a weekend project and have always liked the 8l's so I give 1500 quid for it and thought lets do this, I may even drop the motor and put pistons and rods in it and stage 2 it eventually, for now though Id just like to get it back to standard running order so that I can see whats right and whats wrong so I thought I better join the best known audi forum going :)

So far I fixed : The coolant leak, the glovebox, drinks holder, both windows (what a bitch those cables are) i found the EGT Sensor just dangling under the car??? Plugged that back in, ive cleaned the Maf and throttle body, give her a general tidy up, The N75 valve is just sat there with no pipes on and cable tied to something but still plugged in, so it looks like someones done the delete mod on this, id like to get it back to how it should be but dont have any idea of how it was so some pics of that would be nice, I plan on grabbing myself a panasonic tough book cheap from ebay just for vag.com.

Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read my long rant :)
Paul

Welcome to audi-sport.net Paul. I think that is many weekends work but I'm sure you will soon have it to the stage where it's looking presentable. I look forward to reading all about it. You got any pics of the car? Where you located? Enjoy the forum :)

Hi and :sign welcome:paul sounds like you have a to do list and a plan , I think I would be going to a brakers to find some of the parts you need
stick with it ,it will be worth it in the end , ive had cars that someone else has messed about with before and seen some crazy botch ups that go belief , Had one that had a vented disc on one side and a solid disc on the other , and one with a sill full of newspaper and body filler over the top
so you never know what to expect :sadlike:

Cheers fellas, Im based in Manchester in England and yes I know what you meant about some botch ups, the funniest thing is the guy I bought it from was wait for it........An aircraft engineer!!! Beggars beilief! I nearly choked when I saw his ID card around his neck :D

Anyway I have actually got some stuff but its also a minefield of parts, so far Ive sent 3 wings back that were being sold as Genuine Audi only for them to turn up as copies...one guy couldnt understand when I said why would I pay 60-70 quid for a spurious wing when I cna buy one brand new for 31 quid!! I mean I have to paint the thing too! Hopefully there are some decent breakers out there too. Im intrested in the N74 valve though if anyone does have any good links about how its plumbed in with pics etc, from a brief look (and I dont yet know the engine well but I will) It looks like a vac pipe direct from underneath goes straight into the dump instead of being routed through said valve? Thats just from a brief look to be honest.
Cheers
Paul

As requested some Pics, early stages yet but thats after a little clean up, also I think I forgot to add that I managed to blag the Registration Plate in that price too and its worth around 500 quid so that was a big factor in buying too :)

Your car looks ok not as bad as you said , but hay in the flesh is a different story ,the window cables look a bit of a pig to do lol I bet you started to talk to your self , :search:If you looking for part numbers , Diagrams ,look up ETKA , your car looks nice just needs your TLC:respekt:

Yeah I got etka and I got elsawin and I got Vag.com, just need to buy a multiplexer and as I say im thinking of picking upa cheap toughbook for the garage, the window cables could be a pig if you dont think about how the repair kit has come about... I mean the clips are fairly straightforward but the cables I imagine were thought up by some guy who perfected a repair kit and then thought right now ive nailed it , I'll ship the manufactuiring out to china and have them make it cheap. Result is a set of cables that although will do the trick, have slightly too big locating stubs on the end and slightly too long springs too. Once I measured it all with a bit of old cable I realised that these would be impossible to get to fit so I trimmed the spacer lugs and trimmed about 4 turns of each opf the springs and managed to wrestle it all in, packed it full of molydeum grease and bobs yer uncle. Nice and smooth now. Yes it looks ok, there are positives i.e not one bit of rust which seems a little rare on these nowadays.
