Hi all, I decided to change my aum to a agu engine after the dreaded sludge problem seized my camshaft and snapped the cambelt.

I got the old engine out. Swapped over all the bits and fitted a new dmf, clutch, cambelt and oil and water pumps. Fitted the engine took about 10 hours in total.

I turned the key and bang, rattling smoking so (a little disheartened) I investigated the problem and it turned out the bottom end had gone and it had piston slap....never trust "I know a guy who has an engine"

So... Reluctantly I brought yet another engine this time aum for ease as I was impatient. I got it from 2 guys in Swindon out if there written off golf were great guys.

Come home took old engine out swapped over all my bits, as they had covered no miles, and fitted the new engine plugged and plumbed in in 7 hours! Was pretty pleased with that.

Can't wait to get out on the road in it.

How annoying getting a broken engine first time round.
Good skills and determination doing it again second time round.
