Google Maps Night Mode?

Does anyone know how to get 'night mode' on Google Maps with Android Auto?

I've tried activating Developer settings in the app as suggested elsewhere, but it still won't switch from the daytime colours (far too bright for night driving for me).

Latest Android Auto installed on Galaxy S20+

Presumably you have set Day/Night mode within the phone app to automatic or night mode. Its under general settings - you don't need developer settings

In the app, go to settings, navigation settings and select night on the colour scheme section. Job done.

Unfortunately, still not working. I have all the settings on my phone saying 'Night', but each time it comes on as 'Day' settings and my car interior is lit up like a Christmas tree!
If I choose the Google night settings on the phone, it wipes out Android Auto altogether.

Strange. It must be some kind of compatibility issue when your phone is connected to the car. Have you tried using Google Maps without connecting Android Auto?
