Google Maps MMI vs Phone?

Is the Google maps feature just an overlay with the route and traffic info coming from elsewhere?

In general I'm finding the routes are inferior to the google maps app..

Is Android Auto the other way to have the full Google Maps experience?

As far as I understand it is definately an overlay of google maps, not google earth. Then I'd assume you're probably correct...

With the car connected to data, the routes provided are the same as google maps gives me in my experience. That is as long as the road exists on the Audi maps. My own road here which is now 2 years old is on Google Satellite imagery but still not on Audi maps using the latest update.

In Hastings the 'new link road', nearly two years since opening, also shows as a road in google maps, but the imagery is showing its construction still and shows as being off road in audi map....

Gave it another go today and it's pretty much useless (in London anyway). It almost always gives a much slower route and often sends you down no-entry roads.

I was under the naive impression it was full on Google maps :/
