Gear knob removal

Hi. Probably a very silly question to some, but how do you remove the gear knob on the 8L S3? I don't want to break anything, lol. Does the new style s3 gear knob fit straight on as a replacement? Thanks

not sure if its the same. but on my a3 quattro it just pulls up and you unclip the gaitor
