Fuel additives. Snake oil or the real deal?

Howdy all,

I picked up a couple of bottles of Redex recently and decided to use some while filling up the tank. Haven't really seen or felt anything to be honest.

I have a feeling modern synthetic engine oils probably have all the additives needed and Redex might be just a red herring.

Your thoughts/experiences?

They work but can't clean an engine and fuel system that is already clean. Toyota and BMW/Mini have started to supply their own OE cleaning additives to help with carbon build-up in direct injection petrol engines. Interesting little video attached.
