Hi guys,

I’ve managed to source a facelift steering wheel for an Audi RS3 (one from Europe without virtual cockpit as my prefacelift doesn’t have VC obviously). The buttons on the wheel look pretty much the same except there is now a back button on the new fl wheel, which I’m not sure will worth with my cluster, but everything else should.

Question is if I remove the old steering wheel, will the airbag and buttons all work just the same plug and play?

Think you need to have any steering wheel with an airbag fitted, removed by a specialist. And then the new one installed by the same specialist, so to make sure the airbag doesn't go off when you remove the steering wheel, and to ensure the new airbag does go off if you ever need it to.

Disconnect the battery, wait 10min and turn ignition key several times to make sure all is discharged. Or press start button several times.
Then remove the airbag and after that the steering wheel itself.
Put in the new steering wheel and airbag. Then start connect battery. Start engine first time from the passenger side and if it is S-tronic ask a someone to press the brake pedal so it will start.
All this takes about 30min. BTDT several times, and I am not a specialist.

So would it be possible to code an Audi rs3 2017 steering wheel into and Audi rs3 2015

My point there was that a specialist is not always needed. As long as you have done your homework properly.
I would not give my hand on it, but I think it is possible. I changed 8P1 steering wheel to a 2004 8P. All worked without any coding.
Also changed a MFSW to a B8 which was originally with a standard wheel. That needed coding which I did with VCDS.

there is no coding required. Everyone assumes this and I’m not sure why
Did you have this done in the end? I have sourced an Audi S3 8V 2017 steering wheel and want it replaced for my Audi S3 8V 2014 steering wheel? Is their any complications or simple swap and plug and play?

Hi mate did you ever do this? I have the same issue what coding was needed

Must admit, I'd quite like to know if it's a simple swap - with having MIB2 in my PFL now, the control buttons on the steering wheel would be a welcome addition. Especially since the "next track" option for the wildcard button is not longer an option...

Having a 2013 with retrofitted VC I can try to help:
After fitting VC i needed the View button on the steeringwheel to control it.
But the MFSW buttons refused to work.
Long story short: Update gateway to AM firmware and the steeringwheel starts working again.
Putting a View steerringwheel in a non vc car will leave you with a steeringwheel without control of the menu button, as the view button and menu button dont share the same protocol on the linbus.

Last remarks: Its hard to find a facelift steeringwheel with menu button and flippers.. Most MFSW buttons have the connector for the flippers but they wont accept any input..

Hi there - I retrofitted MIB2 and then the FL steering wheel onto my PFL S3 and unsurprisingly the view button didn’t work. Purchased the correct menu/back buttons as I don’t plan on retrofitting VC and those also didn’t work. So I just flashed AM fw and got CP active on the gateway and still no luck w Menu/Back buttons (all other buttons and paddle shifters work fine).

any ideas? Do I need to somehow code the correct buttons or gateway accordingly? Where did you get your fw - maybe mine’s not the right one?

Thx

Also wondering if there’s an issue with the buttons or related wiring. I started with a complete VC steering wheel and only replaced the left button pod. White harness connecting the 2 pods (and right pod with the clock spring connector) stayed unchanged - maybe both pods and white cable need to be from a non-VC car ( ie you can’t mix + match)?

It should work.. after flashing AM fw on gw. No coding is needed. But the steeringwheel already worked (one with view) There was no need to flash in the 1st place.
Are you sure the wireing loom behind the airbag is correct and still connected? Guess it is as the view buttons worked..

Just saw you only replaced the left side..
Theres your issue. These are matched pairs.

gah I was hoping you wouldn't say that! guess I'm on the hunt for a set of buttons or complete steering wheel.

Maybe VC retrofit ends up being path of least resistance if I can't find a cheap set of buttons :)

Ok looks like I need Left and Right switches 81A951523A

What's interesting is I swapped the left 81A951523 (these are listed as w/o tiptronic, so prob not meant for paddles) to the right 8W0951523F (VC) and the left paddle works.

So for completeness sake, it may be possible that 81A951523 Left + 81A951523A Right work fine.

hello, i have 8v from 2013. I have installed mib2. I bought steering wheel with a VIEW button and put the buttons with a MENU button from the A4 b9 2016. The buttons are lit but not working. Do i need to change the pinout?

Huh, I'm waiting for my set of buttons for an identical swap, hope they work for me.

What gateway do you have? If not high you'll need to replace that I believe.

Okey, i have contact to owner of mibsolution site. I'll talk with him
