Difficult to turn over even with new starter and battery, ideas?

My A3 has always been like this and it's finally getting on my nerves. Sometimes it fires up perfectly but usually it struggles and you have to hold the key in the starter position a bit longer than usual or even give it a bit of throttle to make it turn over.

I changed the starter and battery but no difference, nothing showing up in VCDS, any ideas?

Sounds like a lack of fuel issue. If your stater is making the same normal noise and sometime it fires up ok and sometimes you have to give it some throttle then that points to the fuel or lack of it issue..Maybe your fuel pump is on its way out? Just a suggestions.
