Sorry - I'm a bit of a perfectionist...

When you turn the side or main lights on, the dash glows a nice comfy red... we all know that. But in my S3, the cupholder icon does not glow. Is this right? Or should it glow red like everything else?

No it doesn't glow. If you look closely at the slightly flimsy plastic mechanism, there is nowhere for the wiring to run.

It lights up in the A4/S4 but I guess they skimped with the A3/S3. When you open it you can see it was designed to carry the light from a red LED. The white plastic inserts are for this purpose. Maybe see if you can get hold of an A4 cup holder and check out how it’s done or where the LED is placed. If you do – let me know!

I spent some time today removing the cup holder from a scrap A4. The A4 cup holder is slightly larger then the S3 one. The LEDs are located at the back of the holder slot and there is a light guide to the front. How do you remove the cup holder from the S3. If I can get it out I shall have a look to see if the parts will fit
