cleaning and protecting rear arches?

hi i have an A4 B9
had a look at the rear arches they seem to made from a different material than the front plastic arches
they look like some kind of carpet type wheel liner, something you would find in an interior boot.

I am looking to clean and protect the fronts, any ideas on cleaning and protecting the rear?

They are probably made from a sound absorbing material because they are under the rear seats. Not sure what you't treat them with, maybe something like a spray on tyre dressing?

Just had to replace one on my front. Just use some APC and use a tyre brush and scrub and then rinse. Not sure what you can use to protect as it will pick up dirt straight away. Oh it is actually hard plastic so not soft as it looks.

To clean the fronts and rears are similar, use a good APC with a medium bristle brush, rinse off, if there are any tar spots (etc) that havent come off, then you can use something like Iron X or the like to help break them down and again, rinse off.

To seal the plastic arches, you can use something like Chemical Guys Bare Bones...this can also be used on shocks, springs, undercarraige, wishbones, hubs etc...its very versatile, has an amazing smell, and does last a good while! Best method of application is to spray it on, and then give it around 5-10mins to dry, then wipe off with a microfibre



For the rear arches, if they are covered in a fabric material, they are usually a 2 part construction, the outer layer and inside is a almost like thinsulate material which is designed to trap airbourne noises in its million and one strands...the middle layer should actually be hydrophobic in its nature.

To seal this properly, I would recommend Gyeon Fabric Coat...its relatively cheap and so easy to use! Simply clean the fabric as per above, and this time, spray the Fabric Coat directly onto the rear gaurd (on or off the car) and thats it...Some of its hydrophobic qualities below
