Chipping Higher Mileage S3

Hi there, finally going to look at an S3 hopefully over the bank holiday (filled with a wealth of knowledge from this site - so thankyou).
Just a quick question about chipping a car with 90k on it. Is this a good idea, or should an older engine be left standard to remain reliable?
From looking around seems th S3 seems to run to +120k reasonably reliably, is that a safe assumption?

Getting my 02 1.8T revo'd next weekend and thats got 145k on it, its had the chain tensioner etc rebuilt and ive asked around and by all accounts it'll be ok. So im going for it.
