I have just purchased an Audi A4 (2013 Saloon) with MMI 3G+ and Nav (HN+ I think is the identifier) and have been looking at a CarPlay add on unit from AliExpress. It looks good value and reasonably easy to fit. It will be great to have Google Maps or Waze available and to have all the other features. I have a load of questions before I splash out though and wondered if you can help..

I am reasonably happy with the bluetooth solution for calls and music at the moment but would like a more up to date sat nav. Deciding to invest in this - or a map/firmware upgrade so all experience is welcome.

Has anyone installed it and got experience of the following:
- Does it effect the ability to see speed etc in the dashboard display (between speedo and rev). I like seeing the speed I'm travelling displayed here.
- When in CarPlay mode - is the rest of the MMI effectively disabled e.g. the phone connection etc?
- Are the controls on the steering wheel or centre console all well linked up with the CarPlay app?
- Where does your phone connect and therefore sit? Could you choose?
- Does the phone charge when plugged in?
- Is the phone and music sound quality good?
- Can you use Siri for messaging?
