Hi, I've spent the best part of the afternoon trying to remove the rear headrests in my 2002 a4 convertible. I've looked until my eyes are sort on utube and several other forum but to no avail.
I would be eternally grateful if somebody could tell me how this is done because I'm still at a lose.

These are a nightmare to get off. I had some work done by NHN and he needed to get the headrests off. It was 4-5 years ago but I remember it wasn't easy. Try and pm him, he might remember, or he may reply to this post.

Looked into this as well, the car doesn't suit them, unfortunately they are not designed to come off because they protect the rear seat passengers in the unfortunate event the roll over bars fire out.

They look crxp but I decided to keep them, 100mph, humpback bridge, 2 headless corpses - I decided it's not worth the paperwork:readit:

Or the valeting bill!!

Easy to get off .. Push down on the head rest so that you can pull the clip out with a screw drive then the head rest should just pull out

very thin screw driver, slides along the top of the seat from the side.

unclip the tubes that run inside the rear seats. app 7" long

THESE ARE MEANT TO BREAK AND BE REPLACED, but they can be coaxed out
