Hi Guys

I have a B6 S4 which is a project car currently and I'm going to be fitting a replacement engine.

Whilst I have access to both (old and new) I was going to remove both sets of cam tensioners to check for wear and pick the best pair to go back on to the new engine.

I also want to fit new chain tensioners etc as well (the usual story for these engines) just to make sure that the new engine is as good as can be.

Now, I've not done this before so apologies for lack of knowledge with cam chains...

To remove the cam tensioners do I need to slacken the chain first? If so how?

I assume slackening (and then potentially removing/refitting) the chains will throw the timing out, so need a tool to lock it in?

I've had a look online and I cannot find much information on what is needed. I found this at JHMotorsports:

But seems very expensive for a use-once tool. I was thinking more along the 50 quid line? Also found this on eBay from Poland:

But again - pricey. Is there not a decent multi-piece timing kit that covers this engine? I'd rather pay a bit more and get a kit that could do lots of models rather than this kind of money just for the BBK engine.

Can someone here tell me what tool/s would be good, and what the process of removing the cam tensioners and chains would involved.

Thanks guys!

Come on guys...

Would really appreciate some tips on doing this...

What does the tool do? Keep tension whilst allowing removal of components???
