Audi A6 (c6) allroad - ignition turns off engine but electrics stay on?

Having problems with the ignition.
When we switch off the car it doesn't switch off the radio or activate the steering lock and so we can't lock the car. Initially, this was an intermittent problem where 2 or 3 tries of turning it on and off would shut it down completely. Now it won't turn the electrics inside off at all. Seems like somehow it's not sending the final message to shut down.

Anyone any experience of this type of thing before or any ideas? the car has done 300,000 KM

Sounds like ignition switch fault to me, subject to knowing the car spec.

thank you - Do you know if we change the lock unit do we have to have it reprogrammed?
