Hi all

Browsed thru this section and majority seems to be about the trusty old RNS-e.....

Anyways apologies if this has been asked about before, but in my 2010 A4 Sline TDi Quattro Avant I have the OEM 3G MMI "High" system (that contains a 40GB hard drive) fitted and its hooked up to the Bang & Olufsen speaker system........
Overall I am very happy with the "system" but I made inquiries with Preston Audi about getting the 2009 Maps updated along with a "Firmware" update....

To get my maps in my lovely B8 updated the car needs to spend 5 or 6 hours with an Audi Main Dealer who will have the car hooked up to "their" computer via the cars CAN Bus which talks to the Audi Computer in Germany and a Pin Code that relates to my cars VIN number comes into play......BUT for all this I was quoted £550 (not sure if that includes VAT or not)....my ghast had been well & truely flabbered !!!!!!!!!

Now surely this is madness as I also have a TomTom that I recently updated latest maps for £27 that contains fiull 7 digit postcode as well!

I realize Audi are trying to nail down software piracy ...but surely I cannot see many takers for a Audi 3G MMI Map & Firmware update for £550......

If any of you folk have a cheaper solution for me re the Audi 3G MMI High system Map Updates then can you let me know.....otherwise I will not bother and rely on my trusty Top Gear Tom Tom :)

Theres a Top Tip in this - if you go for an Audi A4 B8 that has the 3G MMI High system in it - get Audi to update the Maps before you part with your hard earned beer vouchers - or not be swayed about buying the car with built in Sat Nav cos it will cost you serious bananas to keep current.

I'm afraid it is only Audi for map and firmware updates on the 3G system.

Got a phone call from Audi York (who seem to know what they are talking about)...its £200 to update the maps and firmware in the 3G MMI High system IF you already have Sat Nav enabled/working.....the £550 is the cost if you dont have Sat Nav enabled and want it working.
Which I s'pose £200 is not too bad.......wonder if Audi will ever do a special offer like they once did on RNS-e DVD's a few years back....

I've got the same problem so have been browsing the net for a solution and found a company called Hazzy Dayz that do a map and firmware update and they use some software that then gives the use of full postcode search for £295+vat which didn't seem bad compared to the £500 that usually gets mentioned for the update. Plus if it enables the use of a full postcode the system becomes more effective and less annoying!!! Has anyone used them for this or anything else?

If you go for the update at York Audi it will be interesting to know if you think it's worth it.

You can update the MMI 3G setup your self for little to no cost, all of the firmware, maps & activation are available to download if your willing to do the research. There are also risks doing this yourself as with any firmware updates it could fail. I updated my setup myself http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a6-s6-...-bit-rebuild-repair-thread-2.html#post2185104 I did have some module that failed to update but rerunning the update fixed the issues.

I have 2014 maps + 7-digit postcode look-up from Hazzydayz. They are a pleasure to deal with.

The owner Gareth did a technical apprenticeship with Audi specialising in electronics. He does know what he is doing.

The hack to get the 7 digit post does make a mess of the 3D maps, also it's very expensive for a firmware update and a copy of the latest maps.

B5NUT, I hear what you say.

I know they don't make a very good job of it - but some poor b**stard has to go around taking photos and updating the streets, new housing estates etc and updating the maps. Indeed a met an Australian couple in an ancient VW campervan who were gainfully employed doing just this. A lot of Eastern Europe is being mapped at the moment & I don't mind paying for the occasional map update.
I believe Hazzydayz charge much less than an Audi dealer - but this should be checked out.
I have never driven anywhere such that I have noticed any impairment of the 3D maps.

I also use a Garmin Satnav with free lifetime map updates if I think the car Nav will be insufficient.

The update on my 2011 car took 4 hours - though the update could be left unattended for a significant portion of this time
