Facelift Alloy wheel insurance

Dont want to poo poo this, price is great, I wonder how good the repair is. I might go for this if anybody can give an opinion on quality of repair.

A man in a van comes to mind. Went this route before off my own back. All the wheel bolts were semi tight, one was cross threaded and had to be replaced. Mind you he refurbished all four wheels in less than an hour so I’m told, go figure:tearsofjoy:

I never had wheel insurance, but don't the main dealers use the same man in a van type repair?

Yea Audi’s policy will use a similar company.

I had it and I found it useful. Got it chucked into my order for free. For mine though, the damage was too extensive so I got the man in the van to agree that a smart repair wasn’t suitable. As a result, I got to choose where to take the wheel for a full refurb and then received a cheque for £110. A 19” diamond cut full refurb was £126, so £16 was a bit of a bargain!

Although....even though the refurb was to a very high standard....it didn’t last. Not long after white worm started appearing from the small stone chips. All other wheels that were factory also had small chips but no white worm. Diamond cut wheels really are a pain in the ****. My advice...don’t curb them!!!

I had one of my 19'' diamond cut repaired the other week after a tiny curb mark. Local specialist have a CNC machine & the finish is O.E look. Did it at a discount for me as a ''loyal customer'' etc but I think there prices start from around £80.00 depending on damage.

Diamond cut alloys is a different kettle of fish. Turn around is about 2/3 days and like you rightly said is done using a lathe. These can only be done a certain amount of times from what I have read.
If I damage my painted alloys again I will more than likely get the whole lot done through the powder coating and full strip method

Audi tried to sort the kerbed diamond cut alloy on wife's S3, totally f*cked it up so much so that I'll never let them near a wheel again. I got mine done by a specialist and they needed it for at least 3 days. You can't even tell it was there.

Audi did a free refurb on one of our cars, just painted alloys.

They left them in such a mess they were embarrassed and admitted defeat to outsource the work. Wheels came back, they said they weren’t up to the Audi Standard so they went back again.. took 3 weeks for a wheel refurb, all catered for with a courtesy car though.

We later found out direct from the company that painted the wheels, there was nothing wrong with the finish.. Audi asked for them to be done in the wrong colour and the first time came back grey and not silver, honestly ****** useless!

Best not to bother with alloy wheel insurance.....

Most Alloys these days need to be re-faced on the appropriate CNC machinery then spray finished afterwards......

It's not until you go somewhere like JP Alloys in Stafford and watch the CNC machine do it's work you realise how specialist a procedure it is.

Not a job for the £50 spot repair man in my opinion.

Best to have a spare alloy if possible then getting a repair isn't as painful.

Just put the £189 into a kitty - to be called upon should you need to get an alloy refurbed - & then you choose who does it.

Ot better still ... be careful & don't curb your alloys :)

Had my RS3 2 years and kerbed one wheel. Had A4 Avant at the same time for 18 months, no kerbed wheels... so I would have paid £380 for £100 (max) worth of damage.
