Can anyone help, am changing rear pads on allroad and cant get pistion to retract any thoughts please? Thanks

Hi I recently replaced the rear disc pads on an 04 A4. The pistons have to be pushed in & rotated clockwise. The Haynes manual suggested using a pair of circlip pliars pushing in & rotating the indentations on the piston face. This was extremely difficult to push & rotate as the rotation did not seem to be catching a thread. I rigged up a piece of steel tube cut with 2 protruding lugs & pushed it in with a large G clamp whilst rotating it. It eventually seemed to catch a thread & worked & I retracted the pistons & put the new pads in. Once done I bought universal brake piston retracting tool from Halfords for about £20 for the next time! I have an 03 A6 also & don't remember having the same trouble with that.... John C
