Hi folks i've been scratching my head for a few days with my '08 A5 Coupe, hoping the community here can help.
The car: 2008 3.0tdi Audi A5, stage 1 remap, EGR has been blanked, swirl flaps delete, DPF gutted. Backbox delete. 150k miles, no issues leading up to this.

The scenario: Driving to work, country roads, cruise control around 50mph in sixth. I notice the car "feels" different, can't put my finger on what it is til I get to a roundabout and realise my cars in limp mode. No knocks, no bangs, no lights on the dash.

The details: When I start my car, it's absolutely fine for about 2 or 3 seconds. Turbo actuator moves back and my exhaust sounds deeper/more growly. It's got an EGR delete/blocked off so it's not that. The soft pipe after the EGR sucks in on itself when revving. Negative pressure on the turbo. Scanned for codes, there's two - the left and right engine mount solenoids are staying open. If I delete the error codes the car fixes itself for 2 seconds, then the codes come back up and the exhaust gets deeper again but i've been assured from another mechanic who "specialises" in Audi's that the engine mounts wouldn't have the car in limp mode - i'm not a mechanic so i'm not sure, however removing the codes does fix the car for a couple of seconds.

I've cleaned the MAF, replaced the MAF, checked the MAP, took the turbo off and the little black plastic box off the back (that was a suggestion that they get metal fragments in and it stops it working, went out on a limb because i'm getting desperate). I don't see how the mount solenoids can have that effect and shut off the turbo. I've had the turbo out and both sides look and spin absolutely fine.

DPF's been gutted so likely not that. My dad's a mechanic and has tinkered with his own various Audi's for the past 9 or so years, he's scratching his head too.

So yeah, turbo's fine but isn't working in limp mode obviously, no lights on the dash, no error codes coming up with VCDS other than solenoids. Any ideas?

Are those solenoids in conjunction with a vacuum block that also supports the turbo actuator?

Try disconnecting the Maf and going for a drive and see if it’s better. if it is then it’s the maf needing replaced.
I’ve had in the past the maf failing with symptoms like yours. the replacement was also faulty and wasn’t till like the third one everything worked properly.

Basically the tuner has removed the codes and now you have no idea what is wrong with the car.
Try disconnecting the egr ele plug and go for a test.
Other than that you'll need to revert the ecu back to stock and then read the codes.

The fact the egr has been blanked but did they specifically tune the egr out so to speak as you mention the egr pipe is still sucking up.

How are the mounts connected, are they using a vacuum system, maybe linked to egr etc, as I mentioned before, is there a vacuum block on the engine controlling these items, without me checking the engine code, I'm hypothesising atm.

My A5 3.0TDI had hydro electric mounts and were a permanent engine code when read with VCDS, but undetectable by my OBD adaptor and software. It wouldn't cause limp mode or a throw an engine light. That was also open circuit. If it is your engine mounts putting it into limp mode, i'll be confused and enlightened simultaneously.
