a4 timing belt/water pump issue

hello new here, need to ask advice on my 05 a4.. I was driving at around 25mph and a small grinding sound came from engine, then it cut out...I managed to coast to side of road and park.... now noticed water in engine compartment and leaking on floor.... does this mean timing belt has snapped and water pump damaged?... have not tried starting again as if belt has gone will damage engine further..... I have been hearing a squeal in earlier days on starting engine... pointing to possible wear on belt ???? just hoping if belt has gone, that valves will be ok ?
