A4 Slow Windscreen Wipers

My 2003 A4 Avant 2.5 TDi wipers have suddenly decided to go slow. On a dry screen they even stop! This is particularly bad on first thing start-up - I guess the battery voltage is a bit lower then. The rear wiper is completely normal so presumably not a supply problem.

Anyone got any ideas, please? Could it be worn motor brushes, and if so are they replaceable?

If I recall correctly there is something about the arms/rods that connect to the motor, hidden below the cover, have a tendency to start to seize. Try applying a little grease (can't remember if a "special" grease is needed) to all moveable parts/joints.

Its just a thought... someone else may be able to advise you better.

what I did though was just spray wd40 over the joints every day for a week and that sorted it...

I had the same problem; however despite lubricating the wiper arms and linkage, I needed to replace the wiper motor, all is good now.
