I have owned my A4 for a couple of years and this week had oil pressure issues. Car is 2008 A4 B7 2.0 TDI BRE 140.
Sump removed and the engine has gears (no chain).
The hex bar has been upgraded with a key which is slightly larger at one end (I assume oil pump is machined to suit?)E way no excessive wear which is good as I can't find a modified key to buy.
The problem I had was actually the idler gear thrust washer/bearing collapsing and shearing leaving me with half a thrust washer in my sump, a very wobbly idler and the oil pump gauze becoming partially blocked.
Has anyone ever had the idler gear fail? And does anyone know where I could buy a new one?
I couldn't find any info on this part failing so if nothing else I thought this might want sharing with other owners who may have upgraded oil pumps as they may not quite as bullet proof as first thought. Car is at 150k.
