A3 1.9tdi tick over speed

Hi there,

New owner of a 2000 A3 1.9tdi and was wondering what the idle speed should be when ticking over? mine is sitting at 9500 revs and was wondering if this is normal or high?

Paul, 9500 is extremely high but 950 is as it should be
