Polished Aluminium roof bars / Paint Finish

Whats the best thing to clean these up? I just got a car that clearly has not be "properly" cleaned in it 6 year life. The bars have a white bloom in some areas....I tried a bit of Auto Glym polish and it took the worst of the dirt off but the bloom still remaims

Also I have some light scratchs on a Metalic finish. Looks like either a close encounter with some jagged verge growth or a poor attempt at "keying" whats the best way to tackle these?

As soon as I figure out how to up the pics I will take some and put them on...probably the weekend.

I dont think the car has seen a polish since new...I spend half an hour with some auto glym at the weekend before it got to cold and rained and it made a huge differance
