Hi all Im new to the forum and I need help desperately. Basically I have a 52 plate audi a4 cab 3.0 v6 auto engine code asn, now I was having trouble with the car the battery was dead every morning, changed the battery to no avail so I called out an auto electrician he spent several hours on it and came up that the instrument cluster was gone, to which a repair bill of £200 I was faced with, so I sent them off to a specialist who said they can't be repaired and that what ever the electrician had done had made them go!!! So basically I'm left with no car and can only get hold of a replacement set of clocks from audi which comes to close to £1000 which I refuse to pay, now iv been reading up and I'm wondering is it possible to fit a set of clocks from another a4 v6 that has a different part number but could be coded in to my car? I no the clocks have part of the immobiliser in so I want to double check and get as much info possible before shelling out more £££ on the car for it to be still a garden ornament. Any info will be a great help as I need the car back ASAP thank you in advance guys.

Is that possible mate? As every other set iv found for a asn has different part numbers to mine

Hi yer V6 cabrio

I had the same problem with my dashboard I wanted to fit the Kilometers only speedo but the dashboard cannot be stripped down into its component parts and must be brought as one piece I have the same engine as you but with manual gear box, but Audi have 2 or 3 different supplies of electronics Bosch, Delphi, Hecto + siemmans and Valeo for alternators and relays etc etc I know VDO do most of the electronics for the dashboard but I was told that Audi have at least 2 or 3 reserve manufactures who cover if VDO can't keep up with demand

Your dashboard could the only difference be manual against auto because would you have gear box position in the centre ??? I have never heard of a dashboard going ?? I would start with basics like checking all the tightness off all the cable's around the battery first and I know its a pain but take the battery out and check the condition of the earth cable which bolts to the body and if like me you have the earth cable which is part of the earth connector I would replace the cable and put a new clamp on the battery negative post not an expensive job a 24 inch cable from Halfords did the trick but it was bit tight (26 inch would have been better lol ) the battery earth cable is black and loops underneath the battery

Then the easiest way to check weather the dashboard is at fault is to charge the battery and take all the fuses out ( take photos off the fuse box check all fuses for corrosion on the pins ) and measure battery voltage with no load and put a group of fuses every day i.e. 10 fuses and then the next ten but take the first 10 out and measure voltage drop it may take you up to a week to isolate the fault but you can isolate where the current draw is coming from and then from 10 fuses try the same experiment with 5 fuses

if you have anything with wifi or Bluetooth make sure these items are turned off as they become constant transmitters and a constant draw on the battery, for the work above a good multimetre would be needed have a look at maplins Code: GW18U for £30 but V6 go back to basics and also disconnect the back boot light a common cause of problems hope this helps
