Hi. My 2016 a4 avant developed a metallic knocking sound in November 22. I phoned my local Audi to book this in asap. They couldn’t until mid jan this year. With a disabled dad, I needed the car before that so I took it (recovered) to a local independent that specialised in vag. They said ‘all compressions are fine, and suggested an injector on cylinder 2 as it was off the scale’ injector 2 changed @£675 and noise was worse. Car sat there until mid Jan this year then recovered to my local Audi. Car has fsh with this Audi and cas covered 72k, 70k by myself as a family car (not ragged about). Initial diagnosis said removed sump to find metal fragments and swarf in strainer that circulated round engine causing engine failure. Suspect conrod or main bearing failure.
They gave me an estimate of £3600 to remove engine complete strip down, change all conrod bearings and rebuild inc all required parts give or take a few bits. I gave the go ahead and heard nothing for 2 weeks. I called in 10 days ago as I was passing to be told I now need a new engine, turbo, dpf etc. at a cost of over £30k!
Since beginning of February my car has sat outside Audi dealer with no inlet manifolds, rocker cover, and loads of other bits inc splash guard. I’ve got Audi uk involved as I’d hope this is very premature but still await a reply.
I now feel my issue is a lot worse with bits of sand/grit being blown into the engine by wind as well as moisture but in all honesty I don’t know what to do. I’ve been loyal to the brand since 2006 having 4 cars in that time. I’ve kept up all history with the same dealership and all finance through vw finance. I still owe £9k on my car.
