Hi Guys,

I'm new here so please take it easy on me. It seems my O/S front driveshaft is dead after driving yesterday it kept making this horrible cluncking noise when turning left (felt like a flat tyre). Had it into the VAG specialists this morning and they say its the driveshaft is broken (showed me it too and lets say there was a lot of play in the outter CV joint).

They gave me pricing of nearly £400 just for the part!!! which with labor will be around 10% of the value of the car.
I've told them to hold fire and I will see if I can source the part myself as I have the Audi parts catalog.

According to the catalog the part number should be 1K0 407 272 EL however I'm having a nightmare trying to find it online.

Can anyone help? Is there a variant that will fit? The garage will take no responsibility for the incorrect part and will charge me accordingly so I need to get it right.

Car details as follows;

2004, 3dr, 3.2 v6 DSG Quattro. Engine code: BDB, Gearbox code: HEZ GYC

Many thanks for any help offered.

MT

Thanks for the reply but they're for manual only, from what i've found the engine end of the shaft is different on the DSG.

oh I'm sorry. I didn't read that part. :-/ I'll have another look

I just replaced mine euro separates offer the outer cv joing for roughly around £50 each the inner cv joint kit you have to purchase from tps or Audi dealers which is around £160 from tps is where I bought mine.

The Audi specialist the car is with quoted me parts from TPS. New driveshaft was £263 then another £115 on top as they say the driveshaft is too damaged to trade in.
They haven't removed the CV boot from the outer end of the shaft although they're telling me its the whole shaft rather than just the CV joint. Is it possible to tell its the driveshaft without taking the boot off?
Just wondering now if it may only be the joint and they're pulling a fast one? To look at the whole shaft you can't tell theres any damage, simply alot of play at the outer CV joint end?

Cheers,

MT

I have been using a company in the midlands for all my cv joints for the past few years and I can say their quality and price can not be beaten. I've fitted about 30 cv joints from them and they are faultless. I first found them on ebay and now I just phone them. Try this for your joint?
