My B8 build plans ..??..

I think it will happen this year Chop.
How did you cut your vents in Chop? Drill corners & jigsaw ?

Reactions: Chop.
Was just gona ask if you were doing it yourself

Yeh a really good drill bit and a battery hacksaw I'll get a pic

If I go for another one I'd use a grinder and a 1mm cutting disc as the drill and the jigsaw/hacksaw was a bit ruff and was lifting the edges a bit but my vents have a good lip on them to hide the ruff bits, a 1mm disc in a 4 or 5 inch grinder will cut it like butter

Also lucky mine lined up with the single skinned parts of the bonnet the double skinned support parts will be more tricky

Cheers Chop, will be nerve shattering day when I do it i imagine
I can touch up the edges with my dremel I once the main cut is done.I'm weary of using a large grinder as it may burn the surrounding pint

Reactions: Chop.
Yeh you would need to mask up the bonnet well round the section your cutting

Look forward to seeing it mate

Re cutting out section for the duct moulding, if it's going into a section of the bonnet with an absence of stiffner pressing, the Bosch shear tool is the weapon of choice

There's no swarf ( with the exceptions of a starting drill hole - usually opened up with hand snips )
There's no heat or risk of paint damage and used correctly negligible distortion
If you have a sunroof installer nearby, pound to a penny they'll have one of those and may for a few beer tokens cut it out if you mark it up for them.

I like it, from what I can remember though there's not much of the bonnet that's single skinned :-(

The bonnet has very few areas that are not covered in supporting structure,so a grinder or jigsaw will be the only option I think

Reactions: Chop.
yeh just by luck I was on the outside middle single bits for mine

Mask it up with a heavy sheet and get the grinder out 1mm discs with nip though that no problem

Cut the supports out first from underneath in the area u choose so you only need to do one skin from the top ?

I'm considering adding a functional vent to the front 3rd of the bonnet (traditionalist please overt your eyes )

GT500 hood vent,part number AR3Z16C630AA

Fitted to an S2000

Don't do it mate you've got a nice car I think it will look cheap. Just my opinion

You're braver than I am. Why not get an uprated cooler and meth kit?

Already got an upgraded cooler, but not so keen on meth with the chargers coating being sensitive to it

Thought meth spray was for the intake? Be honest it's a bit advanced for me.

The usual set up goes via the intake through the charger to the engine, you can do direct port but it negates the cooling some what i think

Another conteneder for the vent

GT3 bumper vent

A bit of wool tuft aero testing for bonnet vent placement

It looks like the vest area will be where the full line of tufts are in the vid (red box in below pic)
No real surprise, but worth doing a wee test

Me too mate,I think it's just the right size/look for the job

Looks spot on, iv already been on the web site for a look

I changed the interior trim from red dipped to re 2x2 twill fabric today.
It's so easy using this fabric,I think it could be done in 45 mins

Cheers all,I love the new look

@TechNick I removed the trim as it only takes seconds to pop off the doors & dash.
The centre console & speedo trims are black so I didn't touch those (yet)

Or maybe a reverse bonnet scoop ? (less chance of water ingress ? )

You won't believe this but I'm not too keen on them mate I like the other one better

Just throwing ideas about Chop,I have also just discovered I have a Laser cutting service nearby who could potentially cut me a vent from aluminium sheet too.
I do quite like the reverse scoop idea though

I hear that mate

Oh nice that might be a good shout

I enquired about an alloy vent some boy was fabricating in the states but he wouldn't post over here :-(

I ordered an Isuzu Trooper bonnet scoop today. It was only £30 so no real loss if I don't like the look of it.Also ordered some Ibis white paint, white primer & clear coat
The size & shape seem perfect for my plans.

A few pics of the same scoop on an Astra rally car,I will fit it the other way around though (if i like the look of it )

Reactions: Chop. and RS5 JON
Have you ordered the Rally spotlights too XP.

Pics of the scoop when fitted mate.
