Bought this b6 avant with a broken engine, owner went trough a puddle of water and engine hydrolocked, result bent rod which let go with a bang about 1000 miles later. Anyway, got the car for a steal and looked for a replacement engine. When i dismantled the head i found no damage bar a bent tip on the 1st glow plug so looked for a replacement block. Got one from a frien down the road for £100, got it cleaned and used a thicker head gasket + ARL/PD150 head bolts. Sold the GT1749VA turbo as i had a low mileage BV43 which i bought new last summer and only done couple of thousand miles on a car i crashed (!). On assembly i found the stock DM Flywheel missing a few teeths so i had no choice but to use the Southbend DXD clutch and TTV custom flywheel i had in my locker for a while- i saved this for a monster project but never got the right car till now ! Fired the engine up and nothing out of ordinary to report bar slight judder from the SMF... Got about 100 miles on the clutch- still bedding it so need to see if it gets better as it's too grabby ! Fitted a Racelogic boost gauge and Allard EGR delete kit today- took no photos as yet as i did not finish ! Here are a few pictures from the build... bear in mind that the Rieger rs4 style bumper will have to go soon, will replace with a b6 s4 pair of bumpers.

Next on the cards is a custom remap, v6 tdi quattro 6 speed/prop and rear diff swap and if not enough power i will go for a set of Firad +80% injector nozzles and GTB2260vk turbo modded to fit...

Excellent job, the bumper is interesting but your plan to replace it with S4 style ones is the best way to go as they are the nicest bumpers for the Avant.

Shiny new rs4 rear antiroll bar + bushes and brackets = no more boat like ride. Next on the list is big brakes....

I am liking that mate, and I really like the wheels actually. Didn't think i'd like them when I first saw them in the pic with the engine out, but I think they look good on it.

RARB is on my list of jobs to do, everyone raves about how good it is.

looks good mate was that a furmer members car on here ?

Done a cambelt job on it today + EGR delete pipe and Racelogic boost gauge- still need to tinker with the gauge pod ! Here's a few pictures:

Next on the cards are bigger brakes, the 288mm discs suck !

To be honest i don't know if Sean was a member here, however there's a few stickers on the side of the car with various forums logos. Was advertised on ukpassats for a song after it thrown a rod and it needed a new engine ! Got a 2nd hand AWX block from a friend down the road and built the engine between various jobs in my spare time. Not too keen on the PD engine as they very slow in stock form but it's starting to grow on me. The clutch is still bedding so cannot give it full beans but it's getting there !

well you clearly no what your doing mate where about are you lol

N. London mate...some call me a VAG specialist, i just call myself an enthusiast- funny as i am a carpenter by trade ! Sometimes i wish i can take more pictures when i work/rebuild engines but greasy hands don't go well with digi cameras ! Most pictures i have were taken by other friends...

oh right bit far for me to call on lol

I'm noticing your Bluepoint Set. I'm a sucker for those.
To be honest had a better snap on tool kit but i had my allroad broken into, if you notice one box is new- ebay special- cost me 200+ postage !

Few more pictures taken by a mate with his mobile camera, i was uploading a map on the ecu so i needed stable 14 volts so i don't get errors...

It was a Torquetronix base map which i tweaked a little to take into account the larger turbo...not bad but has some funny flat spots which the bv43 emphasize a little when off boost ! Ideally i wold get a front mounted intercooler fitted and larger nozzles + a custom remap but for the time being this will do ! I have loads of maps from modified cars but i don't have much time to edit and tweak them myself to suit the hardware off the car ! The a4 has a funny habit that it will put the fan on full chat if you don't tweak the original map off the ECU, something to do with a signal from the coolant temp. sensor and it's annoying when you trial and error ! It adds to the learning process though !
