I agree. On general driving mix, country roads, urban and motorway and driving normally I can't imagine how it could be under about 40mpg.
In fact if it is ever low 30's I would consider there is a fault somewhere.
Also "getting moving demands a bit of wellie" suggests there could be something wrong. Certainly in Sport my car accelerates very fast - certainly fast enough to be dangerous at times.
